Mason County Freezes Out Elliott County

Royals Win Sweet Sixteen Opener at Rupp Arena 66-62



6'7" Senior Trevor Setty scored 8 points in less than 3 minutes to close out the game and put Elliott County on ice in a Classic Comeback Victory which saw the favored Royals,while leading most ofthe way, down by six to the lions with 3:14 left in the game.

From there the Royals, led by Setty and Russ Middleton, went on an impressive clutch 9 - 0 run that included two rallying three pointers from Setty, one of which gave the Royals a 62 - 59 lead with 1:45 remaining.

As the clocked ticked down, Darius Miller had two big rebounds off Mason County missed free throws that kept the Royals in control of the game. One of the offensive rebounds led to a Trevor Setty layup that gave the Royals a 64 - 61 lead.

Miller hit two pressure free throws in the final seconds to seal the victory.

Trevor Setty led the Royals in Scoring with 19 points, including 5 threes.

Darius Miller racked up yet another double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Russ Middleton scored 15 points, including a 59 -59 game tying big three in the fourth, while Ethan King added 11 for the 31 - 4 Royals.

Royals Begin Play Thursday in Sweet 16 Tournament

Mason County, winners of the 10th Region Tournament, will play Elliott County on Thurday Night 8 pm at Rupp Arena in the first round of the National city / KHSAA Sweet 16 Tournament.
The Royals enter Rupp with an excellent 30 - 4 season record in a spectacular year which saw victories over Mt. Vernon New York ranked #15 in the nation, Lexington Catholic ranked # 1 in Kentucky at the time, and highly rated Bryan Station in the year's first game.

Mason County has been dominant in the tournament so far with runaway victories powered by efficient offense and smothering defense.

UK bound Darius Miller has been brilliant in the district and regional tournaments, driving to the basket with unstoppable force and hitting shots from all over the court.

Darius averages 20 points and 8 Rebounds per game for the year and has been scoring at will in the post season so far. On the UK court he will attract alot of attention for good reason.

Also coming on strong in the Tournament for the Royals, Senior Sharpshooter Trevor Setty, has a knack for the big shot. Setty has scored 37 points in the last 2 games and hit 5 three pointers in the second half of the regional championship game.

In that pivotal game the Royals got 18 points from Miller in the first half and 20 points from Setty in the second half. The One Two. Lights Out Indians. Hello Rupp Arena.

Also watch for Junior Standout Russ Middleton to make noise at Rupp and Senior Ethan King entertains with his running one handers and is an excellent defender, as is Keith Downing who rounds out the Royal's starting five.

Mason County Wins 10th Region Championship

Royals Advance to Sweet 16 Tournament at Rupp Arena

In a vibrant, crowded house of rivals on Wednesday night in Mt. Sterling the Mason County Royals put on a dominating performance and left no doubt who should represent the 10th Region in the Sweet Sixteen. hhhhhh


Led by 50 big game points from Seniors Darius Miller and Trevor Setty, Mason County defeated the Montgomery County Indians in the 1oth Region Championship Game 82 - 61 and will advance to the National City/KHSAA Sweet Sixteen Tournament at Rupp Arena next week. hhhhhh


A hopeful Montgomery County Team, on their homecourt, kept it close early but Mason County locked down the Indian's offense and outscored them 23 - 8 in the second quarter.


Starting fast with 18 points in the first half, Miller was unstoppable and scored relentlessly driving hard to the basket or hitting the midrange jumper.


kkkkkkk For the second consecutive game, Setty hit a last second shot to end the first half and send the Royals to the lockerroom celebrating with the momentum and a 15 point lead. jjjjjj The Royals continued their aggressive defense and excellent shooting after the break and stretched their lead over the Indians. jjjjjjjj


Trevor Setty, who scored his 1000th career point in the third quarter, iced the game by hitting 5 threes in the second half and finishing with 22 points.jjjjjjkj


Darius Miller had an entertaining Double Double with a game high 28 points and 13 rebounds.


Russ Middleton and Ryan Hamm each scored 9 points. Keith Downing had 6 points.

Mason County Too Strong for Clark County

Royals Win 68 - 45 in 10th Region Semi-Finals



The Mason County Royals improved to 29 and 4 on the season with an impressive win over George Rogers Clark in the 10th Region Semi-Finals on Tuesday Evening in Mt. Sterling.

After a loud start which saw both teams trading baskets and staying close, the Royals proved too much for the hopeful Cardinals, surging in the second quarter to take over the momentum and control of the game.

Trevor Setty, who led Mason County with 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting, hit a last second high arching three pointer to end the first half and the Royals never looked back.

Darius Miller scored 14 points for Mason County and Russ Middleton added 12.

Mason County Moves Past Deming in Regional

Royals improve to 28 - 4 with first round win

Mason County continued to stifle early round tournament opponents with their swarming defense and highly skilled offense as they defeated Deming on Wednesday Evening in Mt. Sterling 101 to 54.

The Royals have dominated their opponents so far in the tournament and opened up Regional action against the Black Devils at Montgomery County High School with a pressure defense that forced Deming into 33 turnovers.

Mason County used the turnovers and hot shooting to sprint ahead 38 - 12 in the first quarter and the rout was on.

Darius Miller added another stellar performance to his resume as he led the way for the Royals with 22 points on 10 of 13 shooting from the field.

Russ Middleton scored 15 points and Jackson Tolle had a career-high 12 points.

Mason County is averaging 100 points per game in the Tournament (3/299) while shooting 52% from the field.

In the 3 game stretch The Royals have scored 125 points off turnovers.

Darius Miller, with the season influence and numbers worthy of the coveted Mr. Basketball award, has been spectacular in the tournament so far scoring 22 points per game in limited playing time on incredibly accurate shooting (over 70% from the field).

Next Up : A high noon showdown with Clark County on Saturday at Montgomery County High School in Mt. Sterling.
