Mason County Beats Lex Cath at the Buzzer

Royals Win Rematch with Knights 74 - 73

In a classic heroic effort at storied Memorial Coliseum the Mason County Royals, led by Seniors Darius Miller and Trevor Setty, stormed back from 11 points down in the Fourth Quarter to knock off the #1 Ranked Lexington Catholic Knights on a walk off buzzer beater by the UK bound Miller.

The Royals, trailing in a tournament atmosphere to one of their top rivals, remained confident and made crucial shots under pressure to surge in the final stanza.

Trevor Setty, who led Mason County with a game high 25 points, was relentless in the Fourth Quarter hitting clutch Threes from the outside while Darius Miller repeatedly scored on the drive inside or went to the free throw line.

At the height of the comeback the Royals led 72 - 70 with 29 seconds remaining and had the ball.

Then what appeared to be a timeout called by the Royals changed to a controversial turnover call and Lexington Catholic got the ball back with 20 seconds remaining.

Taylor Stewart then made a contested shot for the Knights and got fouled. He made the free throw to give Lexington Catholic the lead back 73 - 72.

The Royals had the ball and were down by one point with 8 seconds remaining.

Darius Miller coaxed the ball from Russ Middleton just inside the half court line, dribbled around one defender, and driving smoothly into the lane glided slightly to his left in front of another defender and calmly released a floating one handed no doubter just before the horn sounded.

The celebration was on. Mason County went up by one with no seconds left.

Miller finished with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Russ Middleton Scored 14 points.
